An off-site practical class entitled “Crime Scene Examination” was organised as part of the Criminalistics course for third-year students from groups Б-ҚТ 24/1-2 Қ, Б-ҚТ 24/1-3 Қ, Б-ҚТ 24/1-4 Қ, Б-ҚТ 24/1 Қ, Б-ҚТ 26/22 Қ, and Б-ЭҚҚҚЕ 24/1 Қ. The class was organised by T.Z. Aimaganbetov, Candidate of Legal Sciences and Associate Professor in the Department of Law.

The session aimed to consolidate theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in handling traces at a specialised facility under conditions resembling real investigative work. Training involved officers from the Operational Forensic Department of the Astana Police Department, under the leadership of its head, Police Lieutenant Colonel N.B. Kanseitov.

Senior Forensic Specialist, Police Lieutenant Colonel I.T. Kenesova, and Forensic Specialist, Police Major Z.Zh. Baibullina, shared their professional experience with the students. They introduced participants to the department’s activities, the purpose of the training facility, and the responsibilities of a forensic specialist during a crime scene examination.

The practical component took the form of a role-playing exercise. Students assumed the roles of investigative team members, victims, witnesses, and suspects. Under police officers’ guidance, they practised detecting and documenting fingerprints at a simulated crime scene, taking measurements, drawing diagrams, and preparing crime scene examination reports.

Work at the facility enabled students to apply their knowledge in a simulated investigative situation and better understand how investigative team members coordinate their actions. The class also provided a fuller understanding of the profession’s responsibilities and requirements, helping students consider their future career direction.

At the end of the session, students thanked the officers of the Operational Forensic Department of the Astana Police Department for organising the practical training, providing professional guidance, and sharing their experience.
