Goals

Why master’s students in Accounting and Audit and Statistics do research

  1. Obtaining new results that matter for the theory and practice of accounting, audit, analysis and statistics.

  2. Mastering the methodology of scientific work and the skills of research as part of a team.

  3. Mastering theoretical and experimental methods for studying objects — processes, effects, phenomena, projects — in the subject area.

Master’s programmes

Master’s thesis topics

Topics are discussed and updated every year for both the specialised and the research-and-teaching tracks — by 30–40 %.

Accounting and Audit programme

Research and teaching

Harmonisation of accounting, financial reporting concepts under globalisation, IFRS methodology in unifying Kazakhstan’s accounting practice, development of state audit, organisation of internal audit in companies.

Specialised

Financial accounting under IFRS, digitalisation of accounting, management and tax accounting, controlling, audit under ISA, consolidated reporting — with scientific novelty and practical value.

Statistics programme

Research and teaching

Developing and applying modern statistical methods for education and science: research work, evidence-based recommendations, information technologies for data analysis, preparation for research and teaching.

Specialised

Advanced statistical methods — big data analysis, modelling, econometrics, machine learning — for economics, finance, marketing and the social sciences, working with real data for management decisions.

What the topics are based on

  • State educational standard
  • Core and specialised course syllabi
  • The department’s research focus
  • Faculty research areas
  • Demand for the topic

Research supervision

Supervision is allocated according to teaching load. All supervisors are specialists in the field, doctors and candidates of economic sciences who meet the qualification requirements.

Research and experimental work

The programmes include research training: the student masters every stage of the work — from setting the problem to articles, patent and grant applications, competitions and the master’s thesis (project). During the academic year students of both tracks submit reports on their research and experimental work: publications, participation in competitions and projects, progress on the research topic.
